diesel powered valentines
diesel sweeties is doing a set of valentine’s day comics with cards you can print out and give people. Very very funny cards. Today was day 3 of it, not sure how many days he is going to do this in total. But definately worth a peek for a good laugh.

Clearly we have very different senses of humor.

I laugh at the tragedy and pain of others. As Mel Brooks put it, “Tragedy is when I get a paper cut, comedy is when you step into an open manhole and die.”
Or at things that are so absurd or plain wrong that I have no other valid psychological response then laughter. Calvin and Hobbes put it that if you weren’t able to laugh at the world, you would have no way to respond to large sections of it.

There’s no denying that such things can be funny. But I’ve tried reading some of the web-comics you link to, and I just shake my head, wondering how anybody could be amused by them. I just can’t find anything clever or witty in them.
Of course, I’m also unamused by The Simpsons, South Park, Beavis and Butthead, and Monty Python.

Where do you stand on the Princess Bride?
And I read the diesel ones and I am amused.

“The Princess Bride” is one of the greatest movies ever, bar none. Funny, romantic, exciting… it’s got it all. To not love it is inconceiveable!

I know there is a book sequal to ‘The Princess Bride’ but I’ve never gotten around to picking up a copy and reading it. The movie though is absolutely wonderful.
Most of the web-comics I really really aren’t the ‘four panels, one gag’ sort of setup. For the greater part there is an on-going story to them and I read it more for that then the occasional bits of funny spread through-out.

Did we have this conversation before, Hythian? Becasue Goldman only wrote the first few chapters of the sequel, and I should know, since he’s client and I have a very chaste yet passionate lust for him. Remind me to send you a copy.

We might have. I have noticed lately that I seem to be having a lot of the same conversations over again. Or a very persistent feeling of deja-vu. Either way, it is making for a very strange month.
